Things to look for when choosing an interior painter

• Ask someone you trust for a referral
• Avoid someone who offers to paint by the hour. The longer they take, the more you pay. This is also an indication they’re in it just for the paycheck, and are not concerned about the quality.
• Get multiple bids. Remember, you get what you pay for. The low bid may or may not be your best bet, but make sure you check the person’s references.
• Get the details of the job in writing in the bid, including the prep work, materials to be used and timeframe for completion of the job. Everything should be clearly itemized. Watch out for the guy who writes his estimate on the back of a business card.
• Ask a ton of questions. You want your interior painter to be knowledgeable and be able to explain how they will do things. Scam artists will give you a song and dance or not be able to answer your questions at all.
• Never pay up front. This is a no brainer.
• Use common sense. Did you get a good feeling talking with them? Do you feel comfortable with them? Did they seem courteous and helpful? If the answer to any of these questions is no, steer clear!
• Check their references and visit their web site.

Estimates

Estimates are free. I’ll come out to your house and discuss your plans for the room(s), measure the space, and get back to you with a written estimate, which will include details of the prep work and painting to be done, as well as the supplies to be used.

Who buys the paint?

I do, and I do not mark up any of the materials. Paint is included in your estimate. I use Sherwin Williams Duration & Emerald because of their coverage, durability, and ease of use. All materials required for your job are included in the estimate unless stated otherwise. If you would prefer to buy your own paint, I can do that, too.

Protection and cleanup

I cover all areas with drop cloths or plastic to protect your property and surfaces.

I also take care in removing all trash and equipment, and will sweep up and clean countertops as well. My goal is to leave your home looking as clean as when I arrived.
